The Athens Islamic Community was founded by dedicated Muslim brothers and sisters committed to establishing a vibrant, faith‑centered community in the greater Athens area. Our foundation rests upon the timeless principles of Islam, guided by the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Our Approach

Brotherhood and sisterhood in Islam embody a comprehensive and noble character—treating others with kindness, compassion, and fairness, and uniting upon shared values and purpose. The strongest expression of this bond is a true sense of community: friendship, cooperation, and collective devotion for the sake of Allah.

At this level, believers work together to uphold the goals of the religion and live by its divine teachings.

Qur’anic Guidance on Unity and Community

Allah says:

“The believers are but brothers, so make reconciliation between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” Surat al‑Hujurat 49:10

Allah also says:

“Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. Remember the favor of Allah upon you—when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together, and by His favor you became brothers.” Surat Ali ‘Imran 3:103

Although we often use the term “brotherhood,” our intention is a faith‑based community that embraces both men and women as brothers and sisters in Islam.

Allah says:

“The believing men and believing women are allies of one another. They enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, establish prayer, give charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have mercy upon them. Indeed, Allah is Almighty and Wise.” Surat al‑Tawba 9:71
